When we moved to the Jacksonville area, we sought out Melissa because she was certified as an Apraxia specialist on the Apraxia Kids website. Our daughter had been in speech therapy for four years prior to working with Melissa and had emerging sounds from all of her prior hard work with wonderful SLPs. Within the first six months of working with Melissa and Mallory, our daughter went from being non-verbal to 75% intelligible. The happy tears that were shed were not only a testament to our daughter’s determination to talk but also Melissa’s ability to expertly formulate a plan of care and execute it while adapting to rapid changes in our daughter’s capabilities. I love having the opportunity to meet a variety of new people every day, partner with parents, and learn about their child’s unique characteristics, strengths, and weaknesses. I find so much joy in treating children and watching not just their communication develop, but also their pride, confidence, and independence. I love the cohesive bond that the therapists at NFTA share. We all have a passion for continuous learning, to provide the best treatment methods for our patients. At NFTA we do not just treat a child’s speech impairment or language impairment, we treat the whole child. We understand how even minor deficits can negatively impact a child across many domains. I specifically have a passion for the birth to five-year-old population. I love being on the front line of an early intervention team and tackling complex cases.
